I love how Satan went from being my least favorite character, to one of my favorites with just 1 saga.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 03:37 PM PST

I doubt I'm the only one who had this moment in the anime.

But I remember literally hating Satan, because he was such an ego driven fake, who stole credit. I hated him in the cell saga

But underneath all of that, he's a super genuine guy who despite acting cowardly, he's incredibly brave. The moment I started to really like satan was when he was bonding with majin buu.

Some brief thoughts on DBZ from someone who only experienced it in Kakaraot and hasn't seen the anime/read the manga

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 02:21 PM PST

I unfortunately grew up in a household that disallowed DBZ in any way, shape, or form (it was "satanic") and never got around to watching it in my teenage or early adult years. I knew about Vegeta, Frieza, Cell, then Buu being the big bads because DBZ has spawned a gazillion memes and is ingrained in nerd culture; and I'd seen less than a handful of random episodes at friend's houses. But I still had a lot of surprises once I played Kakaraot and experienced the storyline for the first time.

Figuring this is a somewhat atypical experience, here's my thoughts on the Dragon Ball Z saga from someone who only played Kakarot and hasn't seen the anime or read the manga...

    • The world felt easy to understand and I didn't feel all that lost not having seen Dragon Ball.
    • The Z-Encylopedia did a wonderful job catching up newcomers on what's what. Props to the devs for the execution of that.
    • I had no idea the first villain was Raditz, and he was Goku's brother no less. This arc was done pretty well and I enjoyed the family drama and Goku's sacrifice was really moving. Even though I knew he'd be brought back with the Dragon Balls later. The side characters also grew on me thanks to the sidequest; and I really hope to see more of them in the anime.
    • Piccolo was the best dad ever to Gohan. The year training to be ready for the Saiyans was a great experience and Piccolo became one of my favorite characters instantly.
    • Vegeta and Nappa were intimidating villains; Piccolo's sacrifice made my eyes misty and Goku's triumphant return was predictable but still awesome. Was surprised when Goku let Vegeta go.
    • The Namek/Frieza Saga was my favorite. I enjoyed the Namekian culture and seeing Piccolo come to terms with his culture (especially after fusing with Nail) was neat. The Ginyu Force cracked me up; and Frieza felt like a truly almighty villain. The way he was defeated and the Namekians saved with Earth's Dragon Balls was some great storytelling.
    • I just loved everything about the Namek Saga except the "FIVE MINUTES UNTIL NAMEK EXPLODES" being more like 15 minutes. In r/kakarot I said this and hoped it would be better in the anime; and was politely (with a not-so-polite message) informed it isn't. So that'll be funny to see unfold.
    • I knew Trunks was gonna show up; him killing Frieza and his dad was pretty cool. The Androids were a smart threat to throw at the characters ahead of Cell. For some reason I thought Androids 18 and 17 were married; and was shipping Krillin and 18 hard after finding out her and 17 were siblings. The Buu Saga revealed they got married and had a kid; awesome.
    • The forms of Cell were pretty fun. I thought it was over when Goku teleported exploding Cell to Kai's planet but then Perfect showed up again. What a shock. The father-son kamehameha was the perfect way to finish off Cell.
    • The timejump into the Buu Saga made the series feel fresh. Had no idea Goten was a thing and that was a pleasant surprise. Gohan and the Great Saiyanman stuff was decent; Videl was the redeeming factor. Mr. Satan grew on me when he helped Fat Buu become a good person.
    • I hope the World Tournament is expanded on in the anime.
    • Buu and his forms were a fantastic villain to end the series on. Super Buu was so evil; and then Kid Buu even more so. I loved Gotenks and Vegito; another thing I hope to see more of in the anime. I found it very fitting that an Earth-powered Spirit Bomb is what killed Buu forever.
    • I'd say my favorite character is Vegeta. Loved his character arc throughout the series and how he had a soft side under his constantly tough exterior. His Trunks hug during the Buu Saga had all the feels.
    • Favorite side-mission was the DMV one. It was such obvious filler that I couldn't help but appreciate it.

Overall I loved this game; and the gameplay was a lot of fun. Thanks to the side quests and spirit emblems I learned the character's names pretty easily too. Looking forward to watching the anime someday! And I'll be giving Dragon Ball a watch too.

[OC] Super Duper Saiyan Gohan by me

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 12:21 PM PST

Rereading Super after reading Z and rewatching Kai, i do see some things that bother me with Super that i didnt notice much before.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 05:50 PM PST

So after reading the Z manga and now continuing with the Super manga i notice little things that bug me.

People keep saying that "Goku was always dumb and childish" to counter the people who say he is more dumb in Super than Z and i usually agreed with the people that said he was always dumb until i began rewatching Kai and rereading the Z manga and realize that no, Goku was NOT as annoying and dumb in Z as he is in Super. Goku in Z had his childish moments where he was a happy go lucky guy with smiles in times of peace, but he never came off as a full on down syndrome as he does in Super. In Super he is constantly making stupid mistakes, stupid childish remarks, stupid doofy faces and constantly whining about wanting to fight, fight and fight and acting like a happy go lucky child in dangerous situations (not all the time, but definitely a few times). People who say that Goku was always dumb clearly didnt watch Z or read the manga of Z in a long long time.

He was NEVER like that in Z with a very few exceptions such as in King Kai's planet and usually around Bulma and Chichi where he acts like a doofus. But Goku was always serious when he needed to be, took fights seriously and took his training seriously. In Super however he is constantly playing around with his opponents and acting like a complete moron (apart from the Beerus fight and Hit fight pre-Zamasu). In Z he even took Nappa rather serious and didn't goof off. He wasn't even THIS bad in Classic Dragonball when he was a freaking kid!

Here is a difference with Z and Super Goku:   Z Goku who fought a nasty evil opponent who destroyed innocent lives and Goku barely won: "You're tough, but i can't forgive you" and kills them if the enemy forces his hand or lets them go if, and thats IF, Goku knows that they can change.   And now Super Goku: "Wow you're strroooonngg!! I wish we could fight again someday!!" and proceeds to make a dumbass mistake like what happend in Ressurection of F, with small exceptions (like vs Zamasu, Hit and Jiren). It's clear either Toriyama or Toriyataro doesn't know how to write Goku anymore.

Other annoyances: Piccolo having absolutely zero self esteem all of a sudden, he already gives up fights before they even start (vs Frost for example). He was never like this, even when the stakes were high he still tried to outsmart them with the exception of Kai Shin, who was a god and the Kami side of Piccolo didn't bother with that.   Vegeta who, for some odd reason, hates stronger opponents all of a sudden and appearently hates a challenge (as seen in the Beerus Saga, Universe 6 tournament Saga and even in the Tournament of Power where he kept doubting himself at times). This is NOT Vegeta.

Also Super is filled with jokes and doofy faces. I'm not even kidding, go read the manga and you'll see that everyone is having a :O or O_O face every few panels... even Vegeta and Piccolo who used to be serious (up until the end of the Buu Saga).

I enjoy the manga a lot, but pffttt its such a big difference from Z.

How to tell the order of Buu's forms

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 11:43 AM PST

One way of telling how powerful each buu form is, is by looking at the nozzle on it's antena. The bigger the more powerful. That way the order from weakest to strongest becomes: fat buu, kid buu, super buu, buutenks and finally buhaan. Also the nozzle doesn't determine how much it has absorbed since fat buu has absorbed more than kid buu yet his nozzle is smaller. Also the nozzle increases substantially from fatbuu > super buu. buutenks > buuhan which was when he gained a lot of power.

What exactly does Gohan want to be a great scholar of and why does he want to be one?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 05:50 PM PST

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't scholars tend to have an area they specialize in? Like a scholar of the arts, a scholar of science, a scholar of language study, etc?

Whenever any DB material shows Gohan studying (especially adult Gohan) or "working" on becoming a "scholar" (whatever that even means), I just wish there was more substance to this aspect of his character. What does he hope to accomplish as a scholar? And again, is there an area of life he wants to specialize in for his scholarly work? Does he mainly want to be a scholar because his mom wants him to be? I understand he doesn't love to fight, I just wish he had a "goal" that was a little more defined. Feels kind of vague

Take Leorio in Hunter X Hunter for example. He wants to be a doctor to help people, especially someone who really needs the help and can't afford it. Something he witnessed when he was younger made him desire to become a doctor like this. This aspect of Leorio carries on with him throughout the plot

I just wish we could know at least what TYPE of scholar Gohan wants to be and how he hopes to better the world through this work. Chichi thinks it's a great thing for him to be, but I don't feel like we ever understand why it is a great thing for Gohan to become one. It's such a central aspect to his character but left so vague. I mean it's so important to him that it takes priority over training to be strong enough to protect his family and the world from the sort of threats that he knows are out there

Android 17 is a forest ranger to partly carry on 16's will because he cares about 16 and has clearly grown to care about life that needs protection. And all of that adds so much to 17's character.

Gohan's dream is left so vague, it just surprises me

What would you want to see in a real DBZ RPG?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 05:49 PM PST

DBZ: Kakarot is fine and all but it's rather bland and just feels too much like a last-gen title and absolutely is not an RPG.

What would a real RPG set in the DBZ universe be like?

    Alteration Type Ki Potential

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 01:53 PM PST

So we know fighters with exceptional Ki Control can create weapons out of their own Ki but what about armor? And what would be the benefit of this aside from an increase in durability (like would it give a character enhanced strength like Nathanial Grey's Psionic Armor in Marvel Comics)?

Edit: guys when I say "Ki armor" I mean like a Knight's suit of armor made entirely of energy.

    Supreme Kai Hax

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 06:43 PM PST

Why has Goku never asked Old Kai to give him a power boost? Maybe before the ToP they could have taken old Kai and everyone into the HTC and drawn out their power in like an hour real time. It seems stupid now that they go up against people like Zamasu and Goku Black who they clearly struggled with and never thought to do what Gohan did when he went from the weakest adult Saiyan to the strongest.
