Do you consider Dragon Ball Z to be a "Deep Show?"

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 08:12 PM PDT

I was writing a script for a video reviewing DBZ recently, and I'm extremely insecure about my thought process going into it. I reread the manga recently, and re watched the original Japanese sub (excluding some filler like the garlic saga), and I was really impressed with how DBZ handles some topics and themes. For example, I enjoy how Toriyama handles gohan's character, creating an insecure and scared child with the capacity to be the best, but with intense mental struggles as he thinks he isn't good enough. I also interpreted the transition from Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball Z as a metaphor for becoming an adult, as from one chapter to the next, Goku has suddenly had a child, and has been thrust into this scenario where he has to meet and fight a brother he never knew he had, and introduced to the concept of aliens and space empires, and that he IS an alien. Dragon Ball Z isn't citizen kane, but for what it tries to achieve (ergo give young Japanese kids a power fantasy as well as some core messages about life), it does a very subtle and good job? To what extent do you agree, if at all, and can you think of any subliminal messaging DBZ contains? Or am I just blowing smoke up my own ass

TLDR: Do you think DBZ has subtle themes and metaphors about life, that teenagers coming into adulthood can appreciate?

My girlfriend made me a Goten painting on this fine quarantine day

Found this rare screener for DB: Curse of the Blood Rubies. I can't find a photo of this tape anywhere online! How rare is this? After watching the tape, I found that it advertises the Dragon Ball series coming to the West to retail and rental stores and has the entire movie with a watermark.

What's your favorite Dragon Ball Z Filler Episode?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 06:53 PM PDT

I know a lot of people look down on Filler, as do I, but I wanted to know what episodes people do actually enjoy. Driving episode is obvious, but I kinda enjoyed the Otherworld Tournament arc as a way to fill things out, and give a little bit more context on the afterlife. Dunno if anyone shares this opinion. If you do, or don't enjoy it, why?

If goku never kissed chi chi how did they get married

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 07:16 PM PDT

Ok the question is in the title but is marriage different in Asian countries? It's just been confusing me ever since I watched DBS

    Is DBZ:Kakarot worth it?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 02:26 PM PDT

So i wanted to play this game for a while, and i just got my ps4 fixed. Before i buy it though i wanted to know how it felt to play this game, so i have a few questions.

1.) is the story good? I know they removed a few important scenes (which sucks bc they were awesome vegeta scenes) but for the most part does the story stay true to DBZ?

2.) this kinda goes with question 1, but are the side quests good? Do they add some depth to the characters, or at least give us some cool stuff to do with them?

3.) is the gameplay good? I heard it was like the xenoverse games, which i loved, but overall, is it good?

    4.) hows the voice acting?

5.) is there a post game? Can i fly around kicking ass as any of the characters after i beat the game?

Thats all i have for now, if i have anymore i'll edit. Thank you all in advance :)

I collect goku funko... does fused zamasu count???

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 02:31 PM PDT

So I collect only goku because the variants are cool and I dont wanna go all put on the others (especially Vegeta).

I have located an official goku red god as my old one was fake but... does the fused zamasu pop count??? I have goku black and Vegito so I have already stepped over that line it seems. I just dont wanna buy it without good reason... would be cool to put the cost of it to something more worth while really

But I cant have the collection unfinished

I am on the edge so thought I would ask here

If you could create a DBZ movie [that's outside the regular series' continuity] what would be the plotline, the main antagonists etc.?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 09:24 AM PDT

This idea came about as I'd added to Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods to my Netflix favorites today (I'm watching some of the movies while I've got the chance, with lockdown here in the United Kingdom ).

My ideas for movies are here - a post I made to my profile.

These are largely self-contained movies that could work as an arc, but I thought they could work better as one movie.

The ideas linked to are for movies that would be non-serial movies, so non-canon to the current series, and their own standalone thing plot-wise. As stated on here, the movies are a good chance to do a story not tied down to canon

My ideas for the movie may be a little out there, but also slightly different, possibly.

The first one is a tournament arc, but as "Tournament Arc: the Movie", sort of, the second one is more of an "antagonist wants to take over the earth"-type one.

In terms of fandom, I'm at the stage of getting back into the fandom after years away from it (then again, in 1998 when I first saw it, I was only a kid!).

This is also for, as long as Reddiquette is followed, constructive criticism on ideas etc.

What's your ideas for a movie and its plotline? - I'm interested to read (been searching through and reading others' previous ideas).
