Dragon Ball’s licensing #s is still insane. Despite no movie or anime in 2020.

DBZ, as a whole, is awesome, but . . .

    Posted: 19 May 2020 05:41 PM PDT

Starting after the Frieza saga, it kind o' irks me how the series becomes Saiyan-centric.

In the Saiyan saga, there was a bigger emphasis on teamwork, so much that Tien, Yamcha, etc. had significant roles in the Earth's defence. Hell, even Yajirobe played a significant role.

And then Piccolo's fighting Frieza had me going!

Tien played a "significant" role in the Cell saga, but other than that, it was mostly up to Goku, Gohan, etc.

I juste enjoy DBZ more when others do more than juste move the plot along. Goku would not have "beat" Vegeta (he didn't and couldn't) had it not been for evèryone's contribution. Piccolo's sacrifice, e.g., was not merely there for dramatic effect. Had he not gotten in the way o' Nappa's attack, Gohan wouldn't have later transformed and incapacitated Vegeta, which put Krillin in a position to kill Vegeta. All the interaxions were organic.

Feel free to disagree. I would like to hear others' opinions on the matter.

Would you want new anime's based of the Dragon Ball Universe one day

    Posted: 19 May 2020 02:06 PM PDT

So I'm not saying this should happen anytime soon or needs to happen, but would people eventually want to see anime based of the universe that branches from the main story we currently have.

With Dragon Ball being so loved and popular I could see Toei eventually doing like a Gundam thing where they eventually do new generations of protagonists.

Couple ideas I have that could work as new adaptations of Dragon ball are Dragon Ball Side Stories or a Universe that is based off Dragon Ball Online.

So Dragon Ball Side Stories would basically work as they have side characters like Piccolo, Gohan, Goten, Tien, Trunks, Hit, etc get a few episodes of them doing their own thing and side adventures. Be kinda like the heroes promotional anime but actually have stories that make sense and not just random fights.

Then the Dragon Ball Online esque anime would need alot more planning and world building for it to make sense. It would run the risk of being just fairy tale in Dragon ball universe tho. But if they do it right they could hit they sweet middle spot between dragon ball and dbz/super with lots of fun adventures and sweet dbz style fights. Also admittedly this prolly only fits as a game.

Something Trunks said at the end of the Cell saga

    Posted: 19 May 2020 08:15 PM PDT

Yo, so a little while ago i started watching dbz (after finishing og dragonball of course) and i recently finished the cell saga, and am now at the goku vs yakon fight, but i had a question about a statement trunks made when he went back to the future and was fighting/beating up imperfect cell. So basically cells like "let me go trunks no onell find out" ya know basic sneaky, villainy shit, but trunks is all "No there is someone watching, and laughing, a friend of mine you killed in the past, i could never let him down" or something like that, and i was just wondering who trunks is talking about and is it his past or the past he visited when gohan beat cell. I may just be being stupid and overlooking major details, (i wouldnt put it past me lol) but could anyone answer this one for ya boi.

How time works in Dragon Ball(?)

    Posted: 19 May 2020 10:42 PM PDT

Does anybody else agree with the idea that fights in Dragon Ball work in two different ways:

    1. Any non-verbal exchanges during fights occur at fractions of a second, to allow the audience to follow the action. In universe, these moments are actually happening extremely fast, they only seem to drag on for us.
    2. Verbal lines or exchanges are in real-time. Obviously the first rule wouldn't apply to dialogue, as they would be talking at inhuman speeds.

I know this all seems obvious, or maybe not worth a discussion. I just see a lot of folks that complain that fights are "too long" or that they "drag on".

This would kind of explain things like Freeza's 3-minute until planetary explosion business make some sense, even though we're experiencing it over the course of 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Maybe I'm just crazy for thinking this way? Idk. It's just the way I see the fights happen in my head. Kind of makes sense of it all.

Does anyone miss the more heavy rock style of music from the earlier days?

    Posted: 19 May 2020 10:14 PM PDT

"Rock The Dragon," which may have only been used on Cartoon Network, got me way pumped up as a kid. I recently listened to it again on YouTube with the original montage opening and was ready to kick some ass all over again. I also remember the movies having heavier rock music in the background. I know "cha la head cha la," is pretty well loved, and it is definitely catchy. The music on DBS really sucks. The theme for the TOP is kinda fun like cha la, but overall I think the rock style is more appropriate for all of the fighting. Maybe I'm just old.
