Do you think ultra instinct goku can use the spirit bomb?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 06:47 PM PDT

Imagine him charging spirit energy while avoiding a barrage of attacks, and then firing off an amped up spirit bomb because he'll have enough time to form big boys. That'd be so cool.

Are these DBGT animation cels real? I’ve got an old family friends that’s had these for 10+ years and he gave them to me because he had lost interest in the show and knew how big of a fan I am. He couldn’t remember how he got them though.

Anyone else like toppo a whole lot more than Jiren?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 01:16 PM PDT

I know every complaint about Jiren has been stated a thousand times over so I don't wanna delve into why he's just an "ok" villain. However, noone ever really brings up toppo and I for one loved him as a nemesis. His voice and art design is absolutely intimidating. He had way more character development than. "Mehh I cant trust anyone"

I really REALLY think his goofy justice centric character transforming into his GOD hakai state was underrated and it is one of my favorite moments in the ToP. However, after he is defeated he never makes a major appearance again. Only appearing briefly in heroes and to my knowledge he's not playable in any of the games.

I think they dropped the ball so far on him. Any other toppo fans out here?

    Why do people hate Raditz?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 03:32 PM PDT

He's one of my favourite characters, why is there overwhelming dislike in this subreddit for him?

    Reasons why I like him:

    • Goku's actual brother

    • Revealed the existence of Saiyans

    • Humiliated the 3 strongest beings to exist at the time as if it was nothing (1HKO's Krillin, almost took out Piccolo and Goku in a 2 vs 1)

    • The fight ended with Goku's death for the first time (which let him learning the Spirit Bomb and Kaioken)

    • Was so much stronger than either Goku or Piccolo at the time it forced the two arch-enemies to team up, which lead to Piccolo becoming a Z Fighter. Piccolo Jr was a huge deal to Dragon Ball fans at this time

    • Gohan unleashed his hidden potential for the first time to save Goku as Raditz was about to kill him

So why don't people like the Boo saga?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 06:23 PM PDT

I'm sorry if this is already discussed to death but I'm interested.

The Boo Saga has always been my favorite part of DBZ but it's been a long time since I watched it. Interestingly, I was reading a couple interviews with Toriyama and his editors and Toriyama mentioned thinking that it was some of his best illustrative work in this period and his editors telling him to basically go nuts doing whatever he wanted since he was wrapping up.

Anyway, I decided I'd like to read the manga and went through the whole series over the past few weeks. As I did, I browsed a couple forums like this one and found people talking about how bad the Boo saga was.

I'm kind of surprised by this. I guess I should talk about why I think it's cool:

    • The climactic battle takes place somewhere other than an empty, rocky expanse of desert for a change
    • A lot of satisfying/interesting character developments -- Mr. Satan proves himself to be more than just a clown, Vegeta finally accepts that he's become one of the good guys and sacrifices himself, Fat Boo proves to actually have a kind of childlike innocence
    • Recovers some of the light-hearted fun that characterized the series before Raditz showed up
    • Boo is just a cool character
    • Bringing everyone together for reunions, including characters we haven't seen for a while, was a nice touch
    • It really goes all out in the final battle -- ultimately it takes the cooperation of Vegeta and Goku, the dragon balls, and literally the entire universe giving Goku their energy to win. It feels like there's nowhere further you can go (of course they've tried with Super and GT but I find the efforts a bit unsatisfying)
    • The fights don't just focus on how huge and powerful everyone's beam attacks are (frankly I found the Saiyan and Freeza arcs a bit boring because of this)

I also liked the way things are wrapped up. It's a little abrupt (why did Goku invite everyone to the tournament just to take off in the middle of his first match?) but it makes sense, as a kind of "passing of the torch." Goku's shown to be concerned with his legacy from the end of the Cell Saga and repeats this idea when he says he wants to give the kids a chance to defeat Boo. But ultimately the theory that he was just inviting the strong enemies seems disproven, and the theory that Gohan or Goten or Trunks were going to take on the mantle of the Earth's defenders doesn't seem to be working out either. Oob appears to be someone finally after his own heart and ready for the challenge (this is made more explicit with the new kanzenban ending where he gives him the kintoun).

I can see a couple flaws, though I don't think they're big enough to make the work bad:

    • The Great Saiyaman thing is kind of fun but it feels like it just gets forgotten about
    • Goku and Chichi's romance was goofy but they actually depicted it! We leave off Android No. 18 saying that Kurillin's a loser and next thing we know they have a kid together. OK, I guess... but Videl saying "don't die, Gohan... I want to date you!" as he runs off is just too terrible for me to let it pass
    • For all the fanfare about powering up Gohan his fight with Boo's kind of short

Anyway, curious to hear what others think.

    About Nappa's character

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 05:50 PM PDT

Well, I've played the story of Dragon Ball Legends and just wanna talk about our little buddy Nappa. I mean, I know he's a villain and all that, but I just can't help but love his character in DBL. He acted as Shallot's muscle-brained mentor which I kinda found adorable. His simple-minded and slightly prideful nature made me really like him. He was like an older brother figure, and when he and Vegeta died protecting Shallot from Frieza, it can actually got me really upset. And it also makes me wonder. What would've happened if Nappa became a good guy? He was just kinda killed off without us learning more about him y'know?

Does it bother anyone else when Goku doesn’t take off his weighted clothes before or during a fight?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:01 PM PDT

In Z and Super combined, he takes them off, by my recollection, a total of ONCE. Wanna know when this one time was? When Raditz attacked. Raditz. Episode 2 or 3 of Z, which has almost 300 episodes, and then the other 131 episodes of Super. Think about how much it could've helped against the Saiyans, or Frieza, or Cell, or LITERALLY EVERY OPPONENT HES EVER FACED. And yet they remains on, no matter what. It really bothers me personally.

Wanting to play the old PS2 games, should I skip Budokai 1?

From what I remember it only got to the Cell saga and it was pretty vanilla compared to the other games.

I think viz needs to step up

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:31 PM PDT

So at this rate were only getting three colored versions of the manga a year while they have all of them already released in Japan at this point idk if anyone translated all of them but if not they need to step up and ik about alot of the licensing issues but seriously three volumes a year im currently trying to read the manga during quarantine and it would be nice to read it in color not that there's a problem with the art it's incredible but there's no competition against color

What would happen if Superman got transported to the world of Dragon Ball?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 05:23 PM PDT

For context, let's say he got teleported via the Dragon Balls or a Boom Tube and crossed from his dimension to this one. Timeline-wise, just after the events of "Dragon Ball Super: Broly."

Edit: I've had a few ask already so let's go with whatever is the latest version of Superman. Definitely not Silver Age, he's too OP lol.

Did Mr Satan beat Spopovich fair and square?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:51 AM PDT

I hear from different places that Mr Satan only beat Spopovich because he had food poisoning and so was weaker when they fought or did he actually defeat him fair and square.
