I finished watching Dragon Ball for the first time

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 09:27 PM PDT

I finished Dragonball a while back but never said anything. First the story was well done and the fighting was really good because there was no transformations which was really nice. If their opponent was stronger or faster they had to figure out a way to take them out. Also this series was more adventure based then fighting which was diffrent from DBZ and DBS. I just really liked that their was no SS or SSG or whatever. It made things easier to understand for people who just started watching the series. I wished that Dragon ball legends and xenoverse etc. would add more original DB characters to the game. I also liked how Krillin and Yamaha and Tien were actually important characters that could at least give Goku a run for his money and helped develop storytelling. I have to say the same to Picollo he trained and raised Gohan in early DBZ and nearly killed Goku but now their all just characters who don't even stand against any antagonists I wished they get a severe power up so they can at least defeat some other characters. I really liked it but to be honest the red ribbon army saga was pretty boring in my opinion. What did you think about the DB series?

Do you think that the people the Buu turned into candy retained their ability to feel getting eaten?

My 7 year old son and I are rewatching the entirety of dragon ball and we made it to the Buu saga and while watching he asked me this question, granted in fewer words. What do you all think.

    An update on my journey

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 08:38 PM PDT

So as I posted about previously I'm reading through Dragonball for the first time. It got to the point today where I hit Viz Media's reading limit per day (100 chapters). That left me off on chapter 267 which is when Goten and Trunks notice Majin Buu's chi and start heading towards Gohan, Buu, and the rest. As for my thoughts, DBZ has been fun and highly enjoyable. I can't wait for 2am so I can read the last 60 or so chapters of DBZ so I can start Dragonball Super!

Ever Noticed Dragon Ball & Z gets the Most Misunderstanding and Unnecessary Hate from People, From Both Characters & Story - Why Is That?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 11:16 AM PDT

Why does Dragon Ball get all the hate, ignorance, and misunderstanding from people. People misunderstanding the messages of Dragon Ball and thinking its just buff guys fighting when that's not true, there's a lot of depth in Dragon Ball, especially if you look for it. Misunderstanding Goku and his character, misunderstanding Vegeta and his character, Piccolo, Gohan and so on. People saying Goku is a bad father which is untrue and debatable. People saying they know Goku, what character was stronger here, what happened in this scene and moment, what this person said. Not telling the difference of moments apart like Goku selfish moments vs unselfish moments for him. People not remembering how scenes went and arguing anyway. Why do you think Dragon Ball gets the attack from this over most other shows. I'm interested in what people think on this topic.

    Best part about DB Super

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 02:29 AM PDT

I've been rewatching DB series in quarantine and I just love how the presence of Beerus and Whis and the other gods changed the whole dynamic of the series. Goku and Vegeta and others now have temperamental people they have to answer to, giving us great stuff like Vegeta trying to cook and answering to a training master for the first time, or Goku being reigned in and forcibly guided in certain directions by someone who he has no choice but to obey (even if they become his pals). Plus Beerus and Whis in particular are just excellent and fun characters.

As it aired I hadn't really noted how much their presence totally changed the show and made it a lot more fun but this rewatch has been fun!

What if Goku and Gohan join Raditz?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 02:12 PM PDT

What if when Raditz went to find Goku, Goku accepts his offer and joins the other Saiyans, to make things more interesting let's say they even take Gohan along with them, what happens next? How would that effect the rest of dragon ball?

    Freiza Is OP

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 08:59 AM PDT

Looking back at the fact that Freiza had never trained one day of his life and was able to gain so much in 4 months i jaw dropping. Many argue saying that he didn't really gain any power but just unlocked his potential, if that is the case then his potential is nigh infinte, to have been born with such a power level and reach great hights in a short number of time is huge. His power was great even Beerus was surprised that he could be defeated by a mortal. That should give you a depth of how deep his power can go. Now if he was to train with Whis , his power would be nigh omnipotent, greater than Jiren and possibly on par with Ultra Instinct. Lets not forget that he could compress the power of destruction and use it, in his base form.

Why exactly is DBZ such a good series? What it is about the story lines that make them so good?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 03:01 PM PDT

I love DBZ but from an analytical standpoint I cannot see why it is good.

DBZ does not follow the hero myth as determined by Joseph Campbell in "The Hero of Thousand Faces", which examines several heroic stories for common elements. The overall story is kind of a clusterfuck of random arcs.

Most of the characters in the saga do not have character arcs (with the exception of Vegeta). Goku, for example, does not change as a person at all between the beginning and end, and many of the non Saiyan characters are simply made irrelevant (Piccolo, Krillin).

The villains are in many cases one dimensional (again with the exception of Vegeta). Frieza, Cell and Buu are all pure evil.

Yet despite all of these things DBZ is amazing. Why is it so amazing?

Dragon ball gt's problem. It feels more like a spin off to z than a continuation or sequel to z. Also the reasons super worked and gt failed. (Not a gt bash post. I don't care about canon I'm talking about them as far as sequels to z) I'll explain below⤵️

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 01:59 PM PDT

Alright so i was looking at the official art that was done by Akira Toriyama and toei for gt. It looked awesome. Like it was gonna be a fun adventure like dragon ball. But that there is the problem. When z ended and we heard that a show following z was coming and everyone was older and time had passed since goku left offf with uub. It was exciting. Now when you think off gt you think of it as non canon or just there. But what really helped super was the fact the it was more so a sequel and continues z's story. While even though gt gave us ssj4 and older characters. It still felt like a spin off then a sequel to dbz. Which is why it failed. It was all over the place. One moment it was like dragon ball one moment it was like z's after story . It didn't know what it wanted to be. They could've had goten, trunks and pan to go in space. If they wanted that young feel they were looking for. But turning goku into a kid... and him staying like that for the whole show and never turned back was ridiculous. The plot was based around him being turned into a kid then looking for the dragon balls to turn him back. AND THEY NEVER DID! They brought adult goku back in the dumbest way possible. Ssj4. Now i love ssj4. It was very creative. It was different unlike the same golden spiker hair. (Ssj2 is basically ssj but with a bang for goku. And vegeta you can't even tell💀 . Teen gohan's the only one with ssj2 that looked different) anyways yeah and ssj4 brought back the tails and the apes. I love it. But come on goku only becomes an adult when he turns ssj4 in gt. Which is dumb again another instance where it's trying to be two shows (a spin off and a follow up to z) oh hey we'll have kid goku oh no adult goku. No both and it was too much. Goku being turned into a kid was for nothing. I mean he was never wished back. There were no stakes from it. It just happened. Now moving on from that. Here's another reason it feels like a spin off. The characters besides goku in gt suck. Like they hyped up ubb for what? Three times. Once in z him being kid buu's reincarnation. Two him being train by goku. Lastly him fusing with buu. You hype him up soo much just to kick him around and to the side. Vegeta. Him growing a mustache and not wanting to go in space with kakarot is very different. But nah he became a sit at home and around saiyan. Are you kidding me? That is not Vegeta. He'd be training his ass off knowing that goku is training with kid buu's reincarnation. When he did fight it was meh. Like oh he's fighting baby gohan ooh gets beat up and body taken over. Oh he fights 17 gets beat up showing his new attack he hyped up. Also he gets ssj4 what happens? Dragon thunder. Vegeta became a weak useless character in gt. While super does put more respect to vegeta and his character. Another point being the fusions. In gt when we first saw uub fuse with boo it was awesome. Theeeen he got beat up. Now it was different with ssj4 gogeta. We knew he wouldn't be no push over or anything he was going to handle business then what did they do!? Have him be some cringe clown the whole damn fight against omega shenron... why did they think that was ok.. was it supposed to be funny or something. He just acted like a complete idiot the whole time. There's a difference between being cocky and joking with it. That wasn't it. He was acting dumb. Then as usual oh goku uses the spirit bomb again etc. While super has vegito and gogeta kicking butt. No jokes just going in. It's sad ssj4 gogeta was wasted in the dumbest way possible. Now i can't say much about Bulma she's the same in super and gt. Still building and helping out. Trunks had his moments more in gt. But that doesn't mean it was good. He should have been like future trunks was. It's still trunks but nah he was a joke. Goten not going with trunks is like bringing your phone on a trip without the charger and i can't believe they did that. Four would have been ok on the space trip. But nah they made goten a lazy play boy. Again bad character directions over all. Anyways this was longer than expected. Also i didn't want to bring super into it. But sometimes you have to show what they should have done vs what they did do. Overall the point is gt different feel like a sequel to z like z was to dragon ball. It felt more like a spin off. But I still love the transformations. Just not the directions it went in. Either way gohan in both is still there. Goten and trunks no longer matter and it is goku's show in both super and gt. What do you think?
