What if Chichi, out of motherly instinct, secretly wished for Gohan's immortality?

This wish happens a few weeks before the Buu Arc begins. How is the series affected?

how I would want to write an original Dragon Ball story

    Posted: 10 May 2021 09:48 PM PDT

I've not really seen people do completely original Solo type of stories for Dragon Ball (Solo, like the Star Wars movie that technically takes place in the Star Wars universe but you could watch it without context). I've seen loads of people doing 'What If' type scenarios like "what if Future Gohan survived?". In fact, those videos get me through my janitorial shift at Food Lion, but I want to make a Dragon Ball story that doesn't require you to know anything about Dragon Ball to enjoy. I thought about doing this because I was recommending Dragon Ball (specifically Abridged but my stutter couldn't get out that word in time) to my homie and they made a valid point on how dense it is. And I know that "History of Trunks" counts as its own solo thing, but I wanna do something like that, too. Here's my pitch:

So this is hundreds of years in the future, nobody from the present stories should be alive except for MAYBE Dende and Popo (idk how they age). But basically, the Saiyans miraculously repopulated over the past few generations. Maybe it's 1/3 in terms of normal humans to Saiyan hybrids. In some spots, it's easier to find Saiyans (like New York) and some are less populated (like any non-densly populated areas). But Saiyan hybrids are more used for military and police/firefighter just any dangerous combat job. In fact, most Saiyans are taking a bunch of jobs since they're biologically designed to be a sponge for all kinds of energies and are kind of built for strength and energy control. But political commentary I'm not too focused on being set aside, here, this story follows X character (let's call him/her Norma). They live in some backwoods place like North Carolina where there aren't too many Saiyans. They grew up in church, was raised with the right morals (with great power comes great responsibility, crap like that), has great-if not completely understanding- parents/step-parents (your old mom was of Saiyan descent and walked out to "do battle" or something, just let the mom walk out). Their father loved your mother and understood her mindset but is still angry at her for leaving and is trying to teach you to settle (in a non-toxic way, like trying to steer you away from training/adventures/space travels crap like that), while your stepmom is trying to actively repress all of your Saiyan biologies. Also, I forgot to mention, humans are low-high key racist against Saiyans, forgot to mention that. Long story short because I'm getting way too invested in the background of my story, you haven't gone Super Saiyan yet, and you want to find out who you are and what you love, whether if that's fighting or X thing your parents/society want you to do. Finally, on your 16th birthday, your dad lets you go on a search for the Dragon Balls since it's Summer vacation and he gives you the four-star ball for your birthday (just a nod for the hardcore fans). Throughout your journey, you make new friends, you begin to get over your social anxiety, and eventually, you find the Dragon Balls and you and your friends wish to do X or Y thing. All I know is at the climax I want them to go Super Saiyan because of guilt over their inaction.

Overall, I want the tone to be lightish. Like classic Dragon Ball but minus all the blatant fanservice. Kind of like Solo, a Star Wars story. Technically it's a Star Wars movie, but you don't need to watch all the others to get it. Basically, it's an adventure story about finding out who you are and learning to love yourself, and form a valid support system. It's fluff, but it's the right kind of fluff

Dragon Ball re-watch Top 20 part 2: Saiyan Saga Edition

    Posted: 10 May 2021 08:47 PM PDT

Welcome to part two of a running series I'm going to be doing where I am going through the entire series again leading into the post-Broly chapters of the manga in order to determine the heirarchy of strength throughout the series. This time it's the Saiyan Saga and it was honestly not as fun to do as the first part because of how straightforward everything is, plus the advent of power levels, which really helps inform everything in the Saiyan and Frieza Saga.

I decided now that I won't be including deities in these list because by the end of DBS the list is just gonna be Angels and Gods of Destruction, which is not fun. So without further ado, lets get into the list

    1. Goku (Previous: 1)- Goku again takes the top spot. He doesn't have the highest base strength, but with the addition of Kaio Ken and Spirit Bomb, Goku is able to push his peak well beyond any character.

    2. Vegeta (Previous: NR)- Vegeta's case for #1: He has the highest base strength of any character, he could have the highest peak with his ability to control his Oozaru transformation, and it took Goku, Gohan, Krillen and Yajrobe to defeat him. Why he's not #1? Yajirobe clipped his tail.

    3. Nappa (Previous: NR)- An obvious ranking. Nappa is clearly not with Goku and Vegeta, but well above anyone else.

    4. Piccolo (Previous: 2)- Piccolo will always outclass the other humans, but the Saiyanification of Dragon Ball begins

    5. Gohan (Previous: NR)- Gohan goes at Raditz and Vegeta in his debut as like a 5 year old in the Saiyan saga. The potential we seen unleashed later on already manifesting itself.

    6. Tien (Previous: 6)- Tien holds form as the strongest human as all of the humans underwent the same training with Kami for a year

    7. Krillen (Previous: 9)- Krillen jumps a few spots as the new generation of human martial artists solidifies themselves.

    8. Yamcha (Previous: 11)- Might be Yamcha's best showing on this list!

    9. Raditz (Previous: NR)- It feels right having Raditz under all the main humans. They wouldn't have shown up a year later as confident if they weren't stronger than Raditz

    10. Saibamen (Previous NR)- Vegeta and Nappa say the Saibamen are as strong as Raditz, but I'll take the Saiyan warrior over the mindless adds, even with the self-destruct

    11. Chaiotzu (Previous: 16)- Chaiotzu makes a BIG jump from the last list. Still only cannon fodder though lol.

    12. Kami (Previous: 3)- Moving on as a master as opposed to a fighter, Kami drops considerably as the students become the masters

    13. Mr. Popo (Previous: 4)- Popo fits right below Kami as he did before.

    14. Master Roshi (Previous: 8)- Unlike Kami or Popo, Roshi seems to be the Master who continues to train. Roshi has the largest variance of maybe any character with his ability to channel so much ki into his kamehameha. I find him hard to place, but I'm putting him here with the mindset that this might be his last appearance in the top 20.

    15. King Piccolo (Previous: 5)- We're at the point of the list now where we mostly just have leftovers from the end of Dragon Ball/Demon King Piccolo saga

    16. Drum (Previous: 7)- I'm running out of things to say for these

    17. Mercenary Tao (Previous: 10)- Like I said, this one wasn't fun

    18. Yajirobe (Previous: 13)- I'm moving up Yajriobe a bit if only because he did a little lazy training with Kami

    19. Master Korin (Previous: 12)- With so few new characters in the Saiyan saga, it's astonishing how many old characters survive as you expand out to a top 20

    20. Tambourine (Previous: 14)- Mr. Irrelevant for round 2. Including the demon off-spring, there are still 5 namekians on the list for the saiyan saga

So why was Goku able to go Super Saiyan in GT?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 07:15 PM PDT

I remember the whole reasoning for Goku not being able to use techniques like Instant transmission in GT was that apparently he didn't learn it as a child. Yet later in the same episode in which this is explained, Goku goes super saiyan somehow. Maybe it's because Super Saiyan is just hardwired into Saiyan DNA (which sounds like a somewhat logical reason when I say it out loud), or it's just GT doing what it does best and making no sense.

Predictions for the new Super Movie?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 07:07 PM PDT

Here's what I'm thinking at the time of the announcement. Based on what we see in the beginning of Moro, Goku teleports back to Earth directly after talking to Broly at the end of his film. From that point, the Moro arc starts in full swing and once that's over, the Granolah arc begins. There seems to be very little time to put in an arc between all of these events, and I highly doubt they'd try to cover the events of Moro in one film or skip over it to start another movie arc. We also know all the earthlings were battling Moro's gang of prisoners during the arc, and Goku and Vegeta were fighting Moro which could mean that they aren't the main characters.

I know it's a long shot and they wouldn't do this, but the only characters who could have an arc happen during these events are the ones not present during Moro's battle on Earth, or for the rest of the arc. Taking this into account, I believe it would make the most sense to either have Broly serve as the main protagonist, or have a major character from another universe be the main protagonist like Hit or Jiren.

Keep in mind this comes from the realm of logical in-universe thought, and not an out of universe marketing line of logic. I know full well this would be very likely to not happen. I could see them having Broly be the main protagonist, but only slightly. I, personally, would love to see someone like Broly in the main character seat for a film, and it's give a unique view on a dragon ball story.

What predictions do you have for the new dragon ball movie? Feel free to let me know in the replies so we can engage in discussion. Also, tell me what you think of my theory because I'd be happy to hear whatever anyone has to say!
