Was just thinking: It’s really a testament to the overall versatility of the Dragon Ball series with how many genres of music fit into it.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 03:48 PM PST

I'm talking like you can place literally almost any genre of instrumental into a scene from the show or a game and it works just fine, because it has been done. Think about it:

OG DB/DBZ done by Kikuichi has this classical, old martial art ish feel to the soundtrack and it's regarded as some of the best OSTs to grace the series.

Bruce Faulconer's take on the series took a drastic turn from this, but is highly regarded by many as it's what we grew up on. Ranging from heavy metal distorted guitars transitioning into techno style breakdowns, and then transitioning further into mythical mysterious sounding OSTs like "The Dragon" one of my favorite tracks.

Taking heavy metal even further, the American dubs of the movies gave us licensed heavy metal music over DBZ spawning the creation of literally every 2000s DBZ AMV ever. Broly would never ever be the same without Pantera 10's and that's a fact of life right there.

Getting into the Budokai and Tenkaichi games gave me some of my best genre crossovers with DBZ I've heard. The jazzy vibe of those games man I wish DBS's current composer would lean heavy into that. Jazz and Dragon Ball are just meant to be, Budokai also had your fair share of guitar heavy tracks as well but the jazzy tracks have always stood out to me. A shame Kenji got hit for plagiarism though. The Tenkaichi games kinda captured some of the jazzy feel of Budokai as well but for the most part mostly tap into the rock instrumental side of DBZ, not to say they aren't good.

And lastly, the DBS/DBZK style of OST by Sumitomo and Kenji. Honestly Sumitomo is my least favorite out of all listed but that doesn't mean he's bad, the orchestra style of OST he brings to the series is great and he has some great tracks but I feel like his style was greatly outdone by Kenji in the Kai era, which is why I'm grouping Kai and DBS together as this sort of orchestrated cinematic style of sound to the series. It's crazy because going from Sumitomo and DBS's OST being my least favorite to Kenji and Kai's early OST being my favorite of all as far as show wise despite them being pretty much the same genre shows just how good Kenji was IMO. Was such a shame to see him go down for his work in Budokai.

It's just something I sat down and thought like damn Dragon Ball has had all kinds of different genres as background music over the years and it never sounded out of place despite the style. Such a versatile show for a composer, you can see why so many wanted to work with it over the years.

    My favorite character is Yamcha

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 10:12 AM PST

Yeah he was mocked and ridiculed into oblivion since he lost to that saibaman or some would argue his demise started when he lost his girl to an alien that tried to blow up the planet or even earlier in the series when he couldn't hold any major wins but I think it's his L's is what makes him a top tier badass because this man really kept his determination up until the cell saga. He has amazing grit.

Also, Wolf Fang Fist technique and the wolf fighting style are top tier techniques and fighting styles.

I'm just convinced that Yamcha has the most tenacity of all the Z fighters and if he really loved fighting more than living sensual and lavish he would be formidable. I really hope Akira bring him back in a dope way, and the other humans tbh I'd like that.

Fight scenes in newer dragon ball super

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 07:12 PM PST

Maybe I'm not remembering the fight scenes correctly but it seems like DBZ and super drifted away from the more martial artsish style of fighting and now it's a little more brawly and ki blast/technique focused. I kinda miss the days where you could clearly see the different fighting styles of the various characters, I really hope they bring element that back in the future.

The Dragon Ball Official Website's articles

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 11:37 AM PST

The Dragon Ball Official Website has an article section. A lot of it is just press releases, but if you click on Featured here, you can find a few gems.

The list is organized by tags. There's Dragon Ball Investigation, which concentrates on using pictures from the manga to explain some aspect of the world, for example, a summary of fashion choices by character, a list of every Kamehameha ever fired, pictures of what foods they eat (both normal foods and exotic ones), and my favorite: how many exclamation marks there are in chapter 1 (it's a lot more than you think).

There's Learn Cool Kanji With Dragon Ball, which is rather self-explanatory: it teaches you how to write each character's names using Kanji.

There's the Toriyama Archives, a semi-daily showcase of illustrations by Akira Toriyama.

There's Toyotarou Tried to Draw where Toyotaro tries to draw (duh) more obscure or even anime-only characters.

And then there's my favorite: Ask the Experts, where they get an expert on a subject to talk about its (usually loopy) application in Dragon Ball. This tag has gone all kinds of places, from Bulma's fashion to workouts, with most of its entrances talking about technology like flying cars and the Freeza Force armor in surprising (and almost jarring) depth.

They also have one-shots like this anniversary special including some (to me at least) new information about the first chapter. Did you know some drawings from the first chapter came from Toriyama's wife, Nachi Mikami?

Finally, they have interviews with people like Hironobu Kageyama (who sung tons of DBZ songs), Shoko Nakagawa (a Japanese celebrity who is a huge Dragon Ball fan and voiced the Seer Fish in Battle of Gods), and an interview about Carddass.

    frieza's fifth form

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 08:49 PM PST

why do you think frieza never unlocked a fifth form (super evolution) like cooler and unlocked his golden form first instead? i saw a theory a year or so ago that said it had something to do with their motivation but i can't remember what is was, all i can remember is that i thought it made alot of sense

The eventual XV3 should have a really long main story

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 04:43 PM PST

XV2's story is great but it always felt way too short, you can finish it in like 3 days.

Of course XV2 came out at a time where Res F was the most recent thing so hence why it ends there but why not include GT or the movies? (I know the movie antagonists were there and Fusion Reborn sorta happened during the Buu arc but still)

I would absolutely love it if XV3's story goes: DBZ and movies (starting with Bardock Father of Goku rather than Raditz) -> GT (Starting with Baby)-> Super (how long depends if the anime continues before XV3 happens).

I know story isn't the focal point of XV but I would still really want a really long story mode since I don't play online (Because I use mods AND I suck ass)
