Trivia question: After Tien and Chiaotzu, who is the next Z fighter to fly?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 05:02 PM PDT

It's pretty well known if you've seen Dragonball that Tien and Chiaotzu learned how to fly from the Crane hermit. They were able to do it in that first tournament after they were introduced.

Dubbed "Air dancing" in the manga or "the levitation technique" it's the basic ability to fly.

It took some time after it was introduced for flying to become a mainstay of the series.

So who, is the first main character after those two to display the ability to fly. As in actually do it on screen. (Note: "flying" via kamehameha wave, wings, or tails etc, doesn't count.)

    Is it

    A.) Goku

    B.) Krillin

    C.) Yamucha

    D.) Master Roshi

Bonus question: When do they do it?

I think the cell saga the best Imo. the story is really deep and fascinatingly complex and there is a lot of character of character development.

    Dragon Ball and Greek mythology

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 01:48 PM PDT

As a Classics student and anime fanatic, the more I watch Dragon Ball, the more I find connections with Greek mythology. Like Greek mythology, Dragon Ball is set in a world where gods are free to interact with mortals, and this is treated as though it were completely normal. The natural Saiyan need to overcome others can be equated with the thumos (that is- the motivational spirit) of a Greek warrior. Speaking of that, the series tends to star a series of larger-than-life characters, some of whom tend to be muscular and strong, along the likes of Heracles, Perseus, Achilles and the rest. In fact, Mr Satan's name is derived from the Roman name of Heracles. Coincidence? I think not. The Kais that sit around, relaxing, fishing and writing poetry could perhaps be equated to Epicurus' belief that the gods exist in a state of pure bliss, oblivious to humanity's suffering

One difference is that the gods depicted in Toriyama's oeuvre do not require sacrifices to sustain them, as in the original mythology, unless you count giving Beerus food as a sacrifice. Nor indeed does King Kai sound like the kind of person who would go around buggering just about anyone for his own amusement. Indeed, no temples have thus far been depicted in the series. Finally, there is the separating factor: whereas the Olympians are immortal full-stop, Toriyama's gods are not, and they can be replaced. Toriyama's depiction of the afterlife is also a stark contrast with the underworld of the Greek myths, since it does not have a ferry, only a registry office, but also seems to be a place where the deities reside, which is not the case in the Greek myths, since the gods in the myths reside undisputedly on earth.

Most likely an overasked question so I'm sorry if I'm adding to the problem. When Goku uses the Kaio Ken does he get a mini-zenkai boost/regular zenkai boost when he recovers from it?

    Gohan isn't really that nice.

Like, if Bardock led literally every Saiyan against Frieza.

Which version of Gogeta do you prefer(animation wise)?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 02:27 PM PDT

Do you prefer his original look from DragonBall Z Movie 12 with Vegeta's widow peak and Goku's strand of hair or the way he's drawn in DragonBall Super Broly? How do you feel about the outfit swap also? Personality was the same. He was about business.
