Does anyone else miss the 90’s art style?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 07:26 PM PDT

Not just for Dragon Ball, but most anime that were produced in the 90's. I feel like the colors are more vibrant, everything is detailed more consistently, shading looks natural, etc. Not saying I hate the way today's art style looks, but it's probably just a nostalgia thing.

Mr Satan contributes in saving the world more than Krillin, Tien or Yamcha. Let that sink !

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 04:57 PM PDT

By throwing android 16's head, he helped Gohan awakes Super Saiyan 2 and defeated Cell.

He befriended with Majin Buu which kept his from destroying the world until he accidentally created Evil Buu.

He actually gathered the citizens on Earth to help Goku created Spirit Bomb and defeated Kid Buu.

What was piccolo doing between DB and DBZ?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:41 PM PDT

He tells goku he's been slacking since they last fought during the raditz fight meanwhile he's still weaker than goku according to Raditz. On top of that, when he makes his first appearance in DBZ, he's literally just standing there until Raditz finds him.

What a boring life this guy was living.

Cell is the least important main villain of entire Dragon ball series.

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 09:29 AM PDT

King Piccolo before he died, he created Piccolo, who would become a member of Z fighters.

Radizt visited Earth to find Goku, because of that Vegeta and Nappa came to Earth.

Vegeta would become a member of Z fighters.

Nappa killed most Z fighters and revealed most information about Namekian. Because of that Krillin, Gohan, Bulma and Goku visited Namek.

Frieza literally cause most event dbz and with his connection to Beerus, he still has some influence in dbs and he even helps the Z fighters to save the universe.

Buu joins the Z fighters and he is important in Moro arc.

Dr Gero created Android 17 and 18 who would join the Z fighters and save the universe. Their future counterpart made Trunks to go back in time. He also has connection with Red ribbon army, a villain group in original dragon ball.

Beerus met the Z fighters and because of that, they know about the other universes and Super Saiyan God.

Champa hold the tournament and when Zeno saw it, he wanted to have another one and that result ToP arc.

Zamasu forced Goku to summon future Zeno and because of that Trunks had to go to another timeline and Future Zeno decided to stay with present Zeno, both have somewhat important role in ToP arc.

In anime at least Cell's time machine helps Trunks in his arc so he somehow has an important role. In manga, he is completely irrelevant.

How strong could frieza be if he went in the hyperbolic time chamber multiple times?

I think the only way Dragon Ball could've continued with Gohan as the main protagonist after Cell is if Toriyama didn't age him up so quickly right after.

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 05:28 AM PDT

I personally think Gohan needed at least another two arcs as a "teen" to solidify his place as the main character. Two whole arcs WITHOUT Goku, so we as a viewer can adapt to seeing him as the guy that everyone is depending on to save the day, and for some character growth from him, so we can see how he balances his training with his studies etc. and then, when Goku does come back from the dead it's to solidify that Dragonball ISN'T his story anymore. I know why things happened the way they did. Toriyama was burned out and wanted to end the series, which I can respect. I also get why Goku killed Buu. It's the story of Goku at the end of the day. But IF Gohan was meant to be the heir apparent to Goku, I think there needed to be more stories about him growing into that role

Does Piccolo Jr. still count as an Alien or Earthling?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 01:30 PM PDT

While the Nameless Namekian (Sr. + Kami) came to Earth in ship from Namek, making them Aliens, Piccolo Sr. died and was reincarnated into a new body in Jr., who was technically born on Earth. So would this make Piccolo Jr. an Earthling or still an Alien?

Reading the Manga for the first time, Just finished all of Dragonball.

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 12:36 PM PDT

I just finished all of the Dragonball manga and it convinced me that this is by far the best way to experience the story. I grew up with Dragonball and DBZ. When I was older I re-watched them both all the way through multiple times. I was a huge fan and knew I had to read the books.

I don't know if I can ever go back to watching the show all the way through again. The pacing in the books is incredible. It would take 30 min to read around 5 - 10 episodes of Dragonball. When Goku first shows up as an older teenager, the last 2-3 books sky rocketed in fight quality. I even knew all of the story points and would verbally gasp at the art when I flipped the page. Akira Toriyama was a master at making me want to turn the page to see what happened next.

The Manga being uncensored helps a lot now that I am older. It was a shock to see Goku punch Drum in the face and for Drum's eyeball to be hanging out of his broken skull

I see a lot of posts and articles about how forgetful Toriyama was with his story, but reading Dragonball I was surprised at characters asking if Goku was from Space in the first volume. I kept finding little things like that throughout all of Dragonball that made me realize that Toriyama either did some great foreshadowing, or he went back and did study his own work to figure out the next story points.

TLDR: For any fan out there, I highly recommend reading the manga. It has changed my perspective on the story in a very positive way. I have already dove head first into DBZ and can't wait to see how the story is presented on the page!

A badass art piece of SSJ4 Gogeta that I purchased from @jadenkai_art. His Saiyan art is amazing! Had to hang it above my headboard, figured it was a worthy spot.
