(Opinion): GT Vegeta is better than Super's Vegeta.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 10:34 PM PDT

If we put aside Vegeta's appearance in GT, and instead focus on the narrative aspects, it's really hard for me to like Super's Vegeta as much as I do GT's.

At the end of Z, in the Buu arc, Vegeta pretty much admits that he's second to Goku, and that he wouldn't be able to compare. He smiles, cheers him on against Buu, and the show ends with his arc being concluded. He's willing to move past his pride to be number 1 for the sake of something more. A new way of living, and who knows? That new way might actually help him get stronger.

Then we go to Super's first few episodes, which retconned Vegeta's character arc's conclusion to bring him back as the main rival. He regressed slightly in that he's back to the way he was in the Cell saga in terms of his rivalry with Goku. The problem is, though, he doesn't go anywhere with it. There was never a conclusion, nor did he grow or change as a character. Vegeta, throughout Super, actively fought to stay the same character throughout the entire show, so he doesn't even have a character arc and is mostly used as Goku's side-kick in fights and during quips. Vegeta gets a few cool scenes, but pretty visuals and empty promises don't really go that far when the character himself doesn't develop at all.

In GT, a huge impression we got from Vegeta is that he's not as competitive towards Goku as he used to be, but, during the Baby saga, we see that he still can't quite let go of his pride, especially after seeing Goku attain SSJ4. He was okay with being the second strongest so long as there were no new ways for them to get stronger without training, but then Goku went ahead and got a new transformation all by himself, and for himself.

It's not that he was okay with being inferior to Goku, it's that he was okay with being second to him so long as the gap wasn't THAT wide, but SSJ4 widened the gap too much for Vegeta's comfort. So now he's going through an "existential crisis" of sorts. He's not okay with the gap widening, and he doesn't know how to make close it.

When Super 17 comes along and Vegeta is taunted as being a Saiyan who lost his pride, Vegeta responds by saying that he's an earthling who carries the baton of the Saiyans, before Goku saved him yet again. Besting Super 17 while Vegeta was unconscious. Vegeta's lack of power compared to Goku is further shown to him when he could do NOTHING to the main antagonist while Goku managed to beat him.

Then, in the Shadow Dragons arc, Shenron is on the verge of pulling a Frieza on earth. That's the closest the cast has gotten to losing the planet ever since Buu. That's when Vegeta's insecurities reach their peak. Bulma offers to help him obtain SSJ4, which, in concept, is a nice tough, showing Vegeta's growth by finally enabling someone to help him soar to new heights, someone he loves, no less.

Vegeta gets SSJ4, and is fighting alongside Goku, but they don't win against Shenron. That drives him crazy. Goku got so much stronger, and just as Vegeta is about to catch up to him in terms of power, they're both about to die along with their planet. All he could do is tell Bulma, Trunks, and Goku's family to escape from earth, live, and avenge both him and Goku one day.

Then Goku is knocked out, and only Vegeta remains to fight Omega Shenron in his base form. Vegeta caves in, asking Goku is "lend him some power". That's because, even though he has the same transformation now, he still feels inferior to Goku. And that with Goku's power, even though they're both equally as exhausted, they might be able to win.

    That's honestly REALLY solid characterization.

    An idea for a book

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 01:56 PM PDT

You know those star wars cutaway books? wouldn't it be cool to have one of those for the dragon ball series? I think it would be awesome to see the inner workings of Frieza's ship, or what the inside of a capsule looks like, or maybe even what the androids' internal machinery looks like.

SPOILER DISCUSSION FOR NEWER MANGA VOLUMES

I'm not sure how much text the preview shows some I'm filling this with useless rambling to fill space...

SPOILER DISCUSSION FOR NEWER MANGA VOLUMES

So a couple of interesting things came about in the newest volume that could have an impact on where the fight goes from here.

Vegeta had gained the ability to liberate stolen energy from hosts and also separate fused individuals from one another.

2 things that are important and might lead to something moving forward.:

    1. The liberated energy from Moro managed to bring most of the inhabitants of Namek back to life with special emphasis on how this happened with no mention of any other planets.

    2. Vegeta specifically tells Piccolo that he can separate Nail and Kami from him if he wanted to.

Though a theme with fighting Moro to this point has been that being strong isn't enough because of his techniques, do you think Piccolo might end up merging with the entire population of Namek to become insanely strong? Since Vegeta could just separate them all afterwards anyway there is no lasting impact to this.

Also, couldn't Vegeta separate Seven Three from Moro with this power as well?

Galactic Priosner Arc - The worst in all of Dragonball?

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 06:22 PM PDT

This is just an opinion, and I'm curious to see if anyone feels the same way since I've seen a lot of positive feedback to this arc. To preface, I'm not a Super hater. Super might be my favourite of all the series, and I loved the Future and ToP arcs a lot. Broly was my favourite anime movie of all time. But this arc just feels... different? Does anybody feel the same? Was Toriyama not involved in this at all? Honestly it feels like a different franchise and everyone feels out of character. Or, as a few people I've seen have mentioned, like fan fiction. This arc had a lot of amazing moments but when I look at it as a whole it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

When the arc first started, I thought Moro was amazing. Cool, calculated, a unique design. Nice to his henchmen. But, when I think about it more, he just seems to be a sloppy mash of previous villains. His energy absorption is pretty much just Androids 19/20 and Super 17, and his magic is very underwhelming and he barely uses it. Going back to Namek felt very similar to the Frieza saga. His wish was to become young again? Just like Demon King Piccolo? Alright, been there, done that, but whatever... Don't like his design as much now, but that's subjective. Oh. He's killing his jabronis now. Just like Vegeta. And then, in the latest chapter, after fighting Vegeta, he absorbed 73, and now... Yeah he's a Perfect Cell-Hit-Janemba fusion. And the way it all happened was exactly like Super Buu losing to Gohan and then absorbing Piccolo and Gotenks to beat his ass. Moro, and furthermore, this entire arc, feels like a collection of cool moments inspired by previous arcs and sagas. Just seems like callbacks and nostalgia maxed up to 100, and not much substance and plot.

Moro coming to earth with his army was just like Resurrection F, except they made Roshi a perv again (I know the anime and manga are different but I don't understand why Toyataro chose not to let Roshi have his character development.) The matchups were cool and there were some fresh ideas but the choreography and panelling was weak in my opinion and 17's return was underwhelming and overshadowed quickly.

Vegeta learning instant transmission felt rushed, pointless and cheap (he didn't even use it in the fight) and his new technique is far too specific and I highly doubt it'll be used in a meaningful way again in the future. Speaking of Vegeta, they're now bringing up that he's an asshole and mentioning he's going to hell. He's never really been remorseful before, why now? I don't know, I like the fact that it's happening but again, it feels forced and rushed.

I also don't quite like the fact that they're using Ultra Instinct again. His involvement wasn't very important and in the end he jobbed to Moro. Not sure where this is going to go but I really think this is the worst arc in the Dragonball franchise (haven't seen GT in a while though.)

    Thoughts?

    Favorite Saiyan transformation and why

I was gonna make this a poll but that's against the rules. So I did it this way. My favorite is Super Saiyan 4 because it just looks badass, and the story behind it is pretty cool too
