Hope that Dragon Ball Multiverse is allowed here because I'm making a huge fan art to celebrate page 2000 starting with the Super Namek itself: Gast Carcolh !

Which interpretation of the Omni-King(s) do you guys prefer?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 04:02 AM PST

Out of the two major 'characterizations' that Zeno (both present and future) display, do you guys prefer 'entirely childish and impulsive' or the 'secretly wise and omniscient' version?

Personally, I'm a bigger fan of the latter one; While it does make sense for him to still be somewhat impulsive and immature (many gods/religious figures throughout human history have been, and hell, look at the Gods of Destruction for an in-universe example) I do feel it makes him feel both more likeable and 'suited' as the role of the grand master of the multiverses.

The prime example of this being how the anime reveals that the Tournament of Power was a secret test of character on the mortal's part, and the Zenos knew (or at least believed) that none of the consequences of it would actually stick, because his omniscience-whether their own or through the aid of his Grand Priest's-meant that the Tournament of Power really was just a game, in so far that 'dying' was just like getting a game-over in a video game. No-one really would have gotten hurt or been erased for a petty reason after all, and it was more just a sort of big get-together of the different universes for fun.

And on the other hand, if Zeno's expectations/predictions were proven wrong, and the winners used the wish for entirely selfish purposes, then it would have shown that the strongest members of the surviving Universe were entirely unfit to keep around because of how they clearly abuse their power-meaning it would have been better to just erase that one too and start over.

Granted, one could still make the argument that this is still pretty messed up-and it is! Even if the end result bore no real consequences, and the Zenos knew for certain that the winners would wish to save the other universes, it doesn't change the fact that the underlying premise of the ToP was completely unknown to everyone else-they all thought they were really fighting for their lives, and as a result were incredibly scared and even frustrated with the circumstances (Bergamo's rant on Goku, with Beerus and Whis rightly acknowledging that everyone else feels the same way). But that still fits, because Zeno is still shown to be kind of selfish and childish at times; Being pretty much the ultimate being in the multiverse sans Toribot, it makes sense that he just does whatever he wants because he can still have his way.

The important difference, however, is that Zeno may be childish or selfish sometimes, but they're neither incompetent NOR heartless; They're the rulers of the Multiverse, and existence as we know it would be way more messed up if they didn't take their jobs at least somewhat seriously, such as how they deal with Zamasu in Future Trunks' timeline as soon as they're summoned-and in turn allow for a new timeline to be made as a means to spare/revive the souls of the innocents caught in the crossfire because that's a morally just action.

In a lot of ways, Zeno is kind of like Goku, especially his latest characterization in Super; Incredibly OP/strong and very childish, to the point of being selfish...but they are ultimately still benevolent and important to maintaining balance and the status quo. Maybe I'm grasping at straws here or stating the obvious, or otherwise just kind of a sucker for wanting 'God' to be benevolent rather than looking for a more 'maltheist' type view, but I personally prefer the anime's interpretation of the Omni-Kings over the Manga, where these traits are downplayed or otherwise entirely absent.

But what do you guys think? Is it better to have Zeno be more indifferent and outright selfish, or do you like the idea they're ultimately still benevolent, or at least lean towards it?
