Thematic parallels between Vegeta & Black Panther's Killmonger

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 01:41 PM PDT

It's already pretty widely recognised that the armour worn by Eric Killmonger in Black Panther is uncannily similar to Vegeta's. It's not known for sure that it's an intentional reference, but at the very least it's been confirmed that director Ryan Coogler is an anime fan, so who knows.

With that said, on a recent rewatch of DBZ:Kai, I noticed a parallel between the story arcs of Vegeta and Killmonger and their relationship to BP's central theme of colonialism.

To start with, both characters are from colonised peoples (the Saiyans and the African diaspora) but both begrudgingly worked within the military of the empire that colonised them while they waited for their chance to rebel (Frieza's army and US black ops).

When each antagonist found their opportunity, they went rogue and set their plans for revenge in motion. However, in both cases they adopted the methods of their oppressors as their own, deciding to become conquerors in their own right. This puts them in opposition to our protagonists (Goku and T'Challa) who are each in their own ways a reflection of what our antagonists could have been had they lived through different circumstances.

Finally, the deaths of Vegeta (the first time, against Frieza) and Killmonger spur the protagonist to reevaluate how they view their cultures. With Goku discovering his Saiyan pride and T'Challa abandoning Wakanda's isolationism.

So, with that parallel existing, I'd say it's far from impossible that either Coogler or one of the concept artists for Black Panther noticed the connection and decided to make the reference.

    What if Humans got zenkais?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 05:36 PM PDT

I saw an interesting what if on YouTube that regarded the humans getting zenkais. How do you think that this would change the story? Could the humans keep up with the sayains?

Why is Cell not popular in Japan but Frieza is?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 10:17 AM PDT

Why is Cell not as popular in Japan as Frieza is like he is in America and most other countries? Is it because of the different cultures?

Dbz beyond. What happens after the characters we love.

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 07:56 PM PDT

Ok so I absolutely want super to continue the story line with characters we all know and love. But who would like to see a next generation type of spin off start up obviously you would have your mini Goku and Vegeta clones for those character elements but it would reflect on some older lores techniques and storylines to be refreshed and completely added to without affecting the main whole of dbz/DBS as we know it. Just wondering who would like that and thoughts on how it would/should even look like.

I posted my depression drawing a couple of weeks ago and the response blew me away. It motivated me to spend the last 5 days redrawing and (for the first time ever) coloring it! I know it's far from perfect, but I truly hope you guys like it. I made it for all of you!

    I hate Gotenks so much

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 06:28 PM PDT

I get it. He's a little kid, so he's supposed to be a cocky brat.

But my god I hate him so much. What a useless fucking character he was...especially in the Buu arc. Moron got himself absorbed.

I hate Goten and Trunks too. So much. They turned Super Saiyan into a complete joke.

[Dragonball Super] The Mortal level and Gods what is their true purpose?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 06:44 AM PDT

What do you believe why do Zeno and his subordinates want to raise the Mortal Level of the universes? Like what is their final Goal?

The best reasons i could come up with are:

    1. Compete with an other even bigger instance? Maybe other Universes outside of those under Zenos's reign.
    2. Zeno is just board and hopes the mortals will one day rival his own power. For that the story with the first time machine in U12 would speak in my eyes. Since that was the first time mortals achieved something that was prior believed to be a thing only Gods can achieve.

What do you think is the Reason or the ultimate goal the order of Zeno want to achieve by manipulating their Universes into development?
