| Posted: 21 Nov 2020 06:19 PM PST Going through my current manga collection I decided to reread "That Time I got Reincarnated as Yamcha" for the first time in a few years and...wow. It's really, REALLY good. Like, "breath of fresh air" good. The tone, style, story, and my god THE ART, are all impeccably "Dragon Ball". And what's awesome is that it's an entirely new concept for the series, and it fits so well...I'm SHOCKED fans aren't clamoring for more. I'd have honestly read the new Yamcha story all the way up to Buu! Why aren't there more what-if stories like this? We NEED more what-if stories! Dragon Ball SHINES when we get weird alternate storylines...just think of that fan manga where Vegeta lands before Goku...a great alt story mixed with this impeccable art would be a crazy profitable side franchise for DB. Why hasn't Dragongarow Lee drawn anymore DB manga?! We need this man to continue giving us DB goodness! I almost prefer him over Toyotaro at this point! What do you guys think? I'd love to discuss. | Could #16, #17, #18, and Piccolo Have Beaten Imperfect Cell Together? Posted: 21 Nov 2020 02:18 PM PST This is a question I've seen fans ask before, and it's understandable. Since the cyborgs were first introduced via Future Trunks' exposition about them to Goku, it's established that 17 & 18's greatest strengths are: A) Their unlimited stamina via infinite energy reactors, and B) Their teamwork. While not perfect, their technique when fighting in tandem is generally twice as effective & excellently synched. This dynamic is highlighted in The History of Trunks during both fights with Future Gohan. Granted, that anime special is considered non-canonical but Toriyama's commented that he enjoyed the DBZ specials despite not personally working on them and certain story details from the anime version were later canonized in Dragonball Super (Ex- Future Trunks not unlocking super saiyan until AFTER Gohan's death). This flashback episode in Super takes clear inspiration from the anime special more so than the manga or DBZ's flashbacks which similarly changed details to craft their own take. With that in mind, we can safely use History of Trunks as a reference from this point onward. Back on topic, while this isn't the first time we've seen two fighters cooperate (Goku & Piccolo vs. Raditz), it's visually conveyed that 17 & 18 more uniquely complement each other's technique whereas Goku & Piccolo's fighting styles were very different. Whether this synchronization was programmed by Dr. Gero or achieved through practice, I don't know but the end-result is the same in either case. We never see Present 17 & 18 fight like this, but it's assumed that they possess all the same skillsets. We must also account for the fact that Present 17 & 18 were significantly more powerful. So, could 18's help have turned the tide against Cell if she, #16, Piccolo, and #17 all fought Cell simultaneously? Honestly, it's a riskier scenario, given Cell's goal to absorb the twins in addition to his tail's speed. He would've undoubtedly targeted them while Piccolo & #16 tried to attack or prevent either sibling from getting swallowed. 16 was the only one of the group whose power & speed were equal to Cell's. Thus, he'd be the most effective in this melee while everyone else would struggle to keep up. Unlike Future Gohan, Imperfect Cell was far stronger & faster than 17 or 18. So, even if they'd fought in synchronized attacks, he still would've likely been able to dodge circles around them unless Piccolo & 16 somehow exploited this opening at exactly the right moment to do damage. In other words, one pair of the four fighters would work defense and the other two offense, targeting Cell's blind spots. Ultimately, Cell still would have most likely absorbed at least one cyborg which is all he'd need to instantly outclass everyone. 18 would've made little if any difference. Overall, I'd say that #16 telling 17 & 18 to run was the right move. He had the best chance of defeating Cell under the circumstances, and everyone else would have only gotten in the way. Unfortunately, 17's pride spelled his downfall. [link] [comments] | ||

Personally, I love Majin Veget the most, for many reasons. For one his look was absolutely the coolest in the show to me. The main reason I love him though is this version marks the biggest rollercoaster jump in his character development. Seeing him struggling with what he becomes vs what he use to be and not being sure which he wants was truly exciting. Let's hear your favorite! [link] [comments] | ||
