    Childhood complete

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 07:26 PM PST

I've been a Dragonball fan my whole life because of my dad and I watching it all the time when I was younger. I'm in college now and I've watch z, kai, and remember begging my mom to buy the GT DVD collection at Walmart and watched every episode after school (even though the quality is heavily debater). Watched all the movies and played the games and most recently of course watching super as it came out. After watching the Broly movie in theaters I decided to watch og dragonball on Hulu to complete the whole circle. Having just finished it I am reminded why I love dragonball and every episode was an absolute joy to watch from gag episodes to when it gets serious. Found myself gasping and genuinely curious about what will happen next and it just felt right to finally watched everything and truly understand why dragonball is such a great anime!

Does anyone else think DBS Future Trunk's Super Saiyan 2 form underwhelming to look at?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 03:36 PM PST

I mean his hair isn't even changed from SSJ1, I thought it would have been cool if he looked more like his spikey, full powered form when he killed future android 17 and 18. I feel like his 90's designs were superior in everyway.

Did you notice that most of the Z fighters make some mistake in one form or another during the Cell Saga?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 04:50 PM PST

The only ones exempt from this are Yamcha and Tenshinhan, probably deemed not important enough for DBZ (they rarely helped the Z fighters anyway).

    To summarize:

    - Piccolo didn't eliminate Cell straightaway after he was being revealed Cell's plans.

    - Crillin destroyed the remote activating the bomb inside Android 18 because he was in love with her.

    - Vegeta was stronger than Semi-Perfect Cell, but he let Cell absorb Android 18 (more or less, he regretted it later anyway).

    - Trunks had a powerful transformation against Cell, but risked his life because of the lesser speed.

    - Goku made the biggest mistake, in my opinion, as he didn't train Gohan properly, made him fight against Cell in the Games (when he could've just had a senzu beam against a fatigued Cell when he fought), even gave Cell a Senzu beam to restore him to perfect health, all this, waiting for Gohan to get angry when he clearly didn't want to (Piccolo explains this well).

    - Gohan didn't eliminate Cell right away after he became SSJ2 because he wanted to play with him.

    - Even Bulma makes the mistake of removing a bomb inside Android 16 when he tries to blow Cell up.

Great DragonBall Moments That nobody talks about In your opinion

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 05:47 PM PST

    In mine

1-Vegeta crying against Freezer This scene is brutal because you can feel all the suffering that Vegeta is going through The guy humiliated him all his life cannot receive vengeance and it doesn't matter how much he tries.

2-King Kai says to Tien that Goku is already using the Kaioken x10, This scene is Also amazing it does an amazing job showing you how desperate the situation is in a very subtle way.

3-Vegeta apologize to ssj2 Gohan This moment is amazing because Vegeta show for the first time his first step to change and became a good guy, learning some humility.

4-Vegeta is revived by Shelong in the Buu saga The final step in Vegeta's journey to because a good guy and involve as a character.

Why was Goku able to go to The Planet of the Kais while he was dead?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 05:16 PM PST

My DB knowledge has been a bit...lacking, for a better word, for a while. How was he able to leave Otherworld without King Yemma's permission? I mean, I know he used IT, but isn't Otherworld a different dimension?

    Generation Dragon Ball

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 07:24 AM PST

    Something I wrote once:

It's really funny to say but Dragon Ball means more to me than most things in my life. You're probably thinking..this guy's an immature man child. You'd be spot on. But that's besides the point. This is different than just an average fanboy obsession.

Dragon Ball introduced an entire generation to a raw example of true grit; it displayed the strength of emotional composure in the face of overwhelming odds. It took us on a journey of what it means to try hard as fuck, especially when everything's against you. But what highlighted the franchise for me was the mentality characters adopted in moments of steep climax.

Their zombie-like optimism gives them an undying source of will and confidence which lends them the strength to become better. Instead of letting their newfound power feed their ego, they achieve new heights by humbling themselves.

Like most successful creators I don't think Akira Toriyama believed his work would be as impactful as it is today. He's actually known to be a spontaneous writer, developing plots for his characters as they come to him; instead of carefully filling out the silhouette of a preordained story.

This style of story telling directly compliments the main protagonist's personality. Ever since Mr. Toriyama brought Goku to life, he influenced the entire genre of shounen to adopt a different tone.

Goku is a naive dumb ass at his core. A type of person that all of us can relate to on some level. This personality contrasts beautifully with his thirst for strength, a rat race usually reserved for those with malicious intent.

Despite his immaturity his persistence knows no bounds. He gets stronger, and faster, while maintaining his innocence. To me his simple nature exemplifies how one can grow through life's obstacles without having to give up a joyous perspective. Too often we see examples of power, and dominance being attained by characters who have become dark and brooding in their journey to greatness. Goku's consistent outlook after his cruelest conflicts is refreshing and different.

I remember coming back from elementary school hoping to get home in time to catch the "next episode of Dragon Ball Z", with my younger brother. The point of this rant is to reveal that I'm not alone in this.

There is a generation of people who have been influenced the way I have. It's gotten us through life's hardships with our juvenile sense of wonder in tact.

This is in fact a mark of good fiction. It's not real by definition and as a consequence, gets us to aspire towards heights we can only imagine. Good fiction caters to the optimist in us.

It's funny because I feel like I've grown up with this fandom, and since then have seen Dragon Ball influence us in very similar ways. It's philosophy has led us to find success in our relative fields of interest. I know this because its representation is more prevalent now than its ever been, mainly because the show's initial audience is finally old enough to have a voice. It's an era of "Z-fighters" I'm proud as hell to be a part of.

did religion have a massive resurgence in the dragon ball world?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 04:33 PM PST

a lot of poeple killed came back to life, and it's a fact that heaven and hell exist.

the dragon team brought back people killed by cell and they were dead a few days, they probably saw king yemma, the check in station, heaven and hell.

DBZ 30th Anniversary Blu-Rays: Episodes 1 through 8, new US Broadcast music?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 05:37 PM PST

So I was curious about something and was wondering if anyone knew why this was done.

I just got the steelbooks and noticed episodes 1 through 8 have some new music featured in them, notably during the recap and title card section of these episodes. Then by episode 9, it goes right back to Nathan Johnson's score from the original Remastered sets. Does anyone know why this is the case? Seems odd that they'd change only those episodes, and leave the rest untouched. Hoping someone has some answers on this, just seemed somewhat interesting to me.

    Alternate Universe

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 03:27 PM PST

Imagine there is an alternate universe where people were watching the story of Universe 6 and went through the whole story with the cast and they still lose in the TOP with the arrival of Goku and company. I think this would be a cool concept for a future series where we are introduced to a new cast in a different universe, only for the TOP 2 to take place and the cast we grow to love loses.
