The dichotomy between Goku and Vegeta's new forms mirrors the one between Akuma and Gouken from Street Fighter

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 08:01 AM PDT

For anybody familiar with the lore of Street Fighter, the relationship between the new forms is basically the same as the contrasting goals of the Satsui no Hado and Mu no Ken. For those that need a brief summary, in Street Fighter one of the biggest bosses of the series, Akuma, uses Satsui no Hado to fight. That means he derives power from his sheer focus on destroying his enemy.

His signature move, the Shun Goku Satsu, is performed by giving himself over to a moment of complete and total focus on killing his opponent, which causes him to attack with countless lethal blows in a single instant. He pretty much uses this whenever he sees a potentially serious rival, and only those who can defend against it go on to fight Akuma seriously.

Who has successfully blocked the Shun Goku Satsu and gone on to fight with Akuma? Only two people, Gouken and Gen, both of whom did so by using Mu. They emptied themselves of emotion and thought, and acted on instinct, which is the only way to react fast enough to block the countless strikes of the Shun Goku Satsu.

You may have noticed that the principles of Satsui no Hado and Mu no Ken sound pretty much identical to the training that Goku and Vegeta just went through. Goku moves without thought, and in order to achieve this he must in his own words rid himself of unnecessary emotions until his heart is as calm as the streams of Mt. Paozu. The same principle as Mu no Ken. Vegeta puts all his focus on destruction, just as Beerus told him was the source of power. The same principle as Satsui no Hado.

    I Tried Watching Super…

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 09:12 PM PDT

I gave Super a try and I really tried to like it... but it's just not the same. The animation lacks that powerful, punchy feel that Z gave me, and the sound effects were completely different. Nothing had weight on impact. The score was lame and felt just like any other soundtrack. Z's soundtrack was menacing, added depth and suspense and also made scenes feel more badass. The character's were more dynamic in Z. They were able to laugh and joke and when the time arose, they were able to be serious and see the magnitude of what was at stake.

All in all, Super felt like a cash grab to me. It felt rushed with very little soul behind it. The storyline also felt like the stakes weren't as high because they had gods that could just redo anything they did, or finish a fight in a second. I've rewatched Z probably 6 times now, but I don't think I'll ever have the urge to rewatch Super.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

Looking for an old Dragon Ball Fanfiction series that was uploaded to YouTube in the 2010s

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 07:21 PM PDT

For a long time now, I've been looking for this Dragon Ball Fanfiction series on YouTube. It was called "Dragon Ball: A Saiyan Legend", and was about the writer's OC, Kobe and his rival whose name I unfortunately can't remember. There was no voice acting, just dialogue with specific colors so you knew who was speaking. The visuals for the series and its fighting was footage from the game Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (Sometimes, different games were used. I think Raging Blast 2 was used at one point or another).

I can't recall the exact year the series was around, but it the mid-2010s from what I can manage to remember. I don't remember the uploader, but I think their name had "gaming" in it, and it sounded sorta edgy, a very typical mid-2010s username. The last episode that was uploaded before the series went dark was an episode where Kobe unlocked Super Saiyan 3, and the description said something like "That's right folks, it's the SSJ3 episode" or something similar. The uploader also made videos that weren't just episodes of the series. Sometimes he would play DBZ games as his characters. I can't really remember what he sounds like, but I don't think he spoke often, the uploader was definitely male though.

If anyone at all remembers what I'm talking about or can even find out where the series went, please let me know.

Has DragonBall abandoned the concept of Zenkai boosts for Saiyans?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 09:40 AM PDT

First off, I know that Zenkai is a fan term that is never actually used in the series. I only remember it ever being super plot relevant in the namek arc. Goku Gohan and Vegeta all used Zenkai to amass huge power in short time. Vegeta directly comments on it several times. Fans have also (most likely correctly) Atributed power boosts goku got as a child to this concept retroactively. It's never really mentioned again after namek though. I think cell says he gets one when he returns super perfect but the saiyan characters seemingly aren't getting them anymore. The concept is seemingly completely dropped in the buu saga and in db super Vegeta seems to have amended the saiyan ability to be that they just get stronger from fighting in general not through near death. Vegeta also claims goku and himself are reaching a plateau. a belief he almost immediately walks back by continuing to claim he's always getting stronger and unlocking TWO new forms since then. One in the anime and the other in the manga. So which is it are they still getting Zenkai or is this a classic example of the writers forgetting key details.

Saiyans being able to sense ki was vital to their growth

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 04:30 PM PDT

I was talking about this with my friend and I was wondering what the community thinks about the idea.

The way the zenkai boost works with saiyans is there body's get stronger everytime they get injured but I also think the increase is tied to their ability to sense ki the higher the power level the bigger the increase.

It doesn't really start until the frieza saga because most of the saiyan saga power increases are from training or the actual zenkai boost the only exception is gohan but that can be argued that it's just his hidden potential coming out.

So Vegeta learned to sense ki then went to namek and his power level was over 24k and I think it maxed out around 200k before he was killed by Frieza, Vegeta was constantly getting into fight on Namek and all the while he was able to sense ki he was a bit poor at first but was able to get used to it and was probably sensing Frieza ki while fighting.

Another thing is Freiza was getting worried about how strong the saiyans were getting though non of them could sense ki but because frieza's power level was so much higher than anyone else's it could have had some sort of residue effect going on.

Goku came to Namek around 90k and was around 3 million when he turned SSJ he only got injured the once but was put in that rejuvenation chamber all the while sensing the fight with frieza and that's were he got his big boost.

The androids didn't have ki so there's nothing of note there and most of their power increases come from the hyperbolic time chamber but I will mention that goku and gohan both came out with similar power levels (disregarding gohan's Ssj2) and vegeta and trunks came out the same with vegeta declaring he was slightly stronger meaning that the weaker one was probably getting a boost from the strongest.

You can argue that Cell had saiyan dna and he came back with a ssj2 aura with a power increase, his body was literally disigned to get the best out of all the dna he got put into him so you can bet he had this ability as well if not made it better by it if Gohan wasn't holding back before he finished him the fight might of had a different outcome.

Goku was almost as strong as fat buu in ssj3 so i don't think he would have gotten any boost from him and vegeta died so there's nothing I can back up there and Goku's ki got harder to handle in a living body so he took a hit during the buu saga and vegeta was just a punching bag and most likely had a massive power increase after it but I'm not to sure if it worked as he was dead at the time.

During the fight with beerus nobody could sense his ki until Goku went ssg after that he was able to sense it and was able to keep most of his power in his base form and then went ssj (I'm not 100% on what happened as they explained it badly but he did get stronger)

After this they keep going into the future universe to fight goku black and they keep getting stronger but this is probably just the regular zenkai boost working.

The tournament of power just threw power levels out the window and I can't work out what's going on but the universe 6 saiyans kept getting stronger and vegeta even had a speech about the saiyans growth when Belmond was saying it was over for Goku.

    Reorganizing the dragon ball arcs

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 03:28 PM PDT

So what I'll be doing is rearranging the db arcs to create a new story, adding in the movies and then letting you guys assume what happens in those arcs. Of course if a arc in Super or Z does end up lower assume the power scaling is set back so the characters can handle the threats. But this is just my personal opinion on how the arcs should be arranged.

    Part 1: Mystical Adventures

    Arc 1: Pilaf Saga

Arc 2: Curse of The Blood Rubbies Saga

Arc 3: Roshi Training arc/Sleeping Princess in devil's castle Saga

    Arc 4: 1st Tournament Saga

Arc 5: Red Ribbon/Path to Power Saga

    Arc 6: 2nd Tournament/Mystical Adventure Saga

Arc 7: Demon King Piccolo Saga

    Arc 8: 3rd Tournament/Piccolo Jr. Saga

Arc 9: Garlic Jr. Saga(Movie version)

    Arc 10: World's Strongest Saga

    Arc 11: Buu Saga

With this concludes the Mystical Adventures part of the story the theme of this part is more earth and mystical stuff going on keeping it down to earth. Like I said if your going to make predictions on what happen in the story make sure to scale down the characters so that the main characters can handle the threat.

    Part 2: Space Sci-Fi Saga

Arc 12: Saiyan/The Tree of Might Saga

Arc 13: Namek(entirety of it like freeza, ginyu, etc)/Lord Slug Saga

Arc 14: Mecha Freeza/Cooler's revenge Saga

Arc 15: Black Star Dragonballs/Return of Cooler/Broly the legendary Super Saiyan Saga.

    Arc 16: Granolah/beibei Saga

Arc 17: Cell(Including androids and Future Trunks)/Super 13/Bio Broly Saga

    Arc 18: Moro/Bojack Unbound Saga

Arc 19: Broly Second Coming/DBS Broly Saga

    Arc 20: 4th Tournament Saga

    Arc 21: Fusion Reborn/Super 17/ROF Saga

Arc 22: Wrath of The Dragon Saga

This is the end of part 2, most of the threats come from space or have a connection to space in some way, I'm curious to find out what'll be said in the comments.

    Part 3: Gods saga

Arc 23: Battle of Gods Saga

    Arc 24: Future Trunks Saga

    Arc 25: U6 vs U7 Saga

Arc 26: Tournament of Power Saga

    Arc 27: Shadow Dragons Saga

    Arc 27: Peaceful World Saga

    Arc 28: Goku Jr. Saga

And with part 3 being the ending to the dragon ball story, I'm currious how you all will say how the arcs connect to one another. I tried to keep it themed base so that everything can fit with each other.
